Health Insurance Options in Utah County: What to Know in 2026

Health insurance is one of the most confusing purchases most people make — and one of the most important. If you’re in Utah County and trying to figure out your options, you’re not alone.

Note: Health insurance quotes are handled through my office at Blue Mountain Insurance. If you’re ready to explore your options, I’ll connect you with the right person — just reach out below.

Your Main Health Insurance Options in Utah

1. Employer-Sponsored Coverage

If your employer offers health insurance, this is usually your first and best option. Employer plans are often subsidized, making them significantly more affordable than buying on your own.

2. ACA Marketplace Plans (Healthcare.gov)

Utah uses the federal marketplace at healthcare.gov. Plans are categorized as Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Premium tax credits are available based on income — many Utah County residents qualify for significant subsidies. Open enrollment runs November 1 – January 15 each year.

3. Medicaid

Utah expanded Medicaid under the ACA. If your household income is at or below 138% of the federal poverty level, you may qualify for comprehensive coverage with little to no premium. Apply at health.utah.gov.

4. CHIP

Low-cost health coverage for kids whose families don’t qualify for Medicaid but can’t afford private coverage.

5. Short-Term Health Plans

Temporary coverage (1–12 months), generally less expensive but with limitations — can deny pre-existing conditions and don’t cover all essential benefits.

6. Medicare

For those 65+ or with certain disabilities. If you’re approaching 65, start the conversation 3–6 months before your birthday.
